What are essential oils?

You've probably seen and heard the words/term Essential Oils, but aren't quite sure what they are?  In short, Essential Oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, stems, bark, roots, leaves, flowers, and other parts of plants.  They have been around for thousands of years and have been used for their medicinal, health, energy, and mood enhancing benefits.  Essential Oils can be applied in 3 ways, topically, aromatically, and internally (*note, exceptions do apply for topical and internal application as all Essential Oils are not derived using the same methods).

The medicinal properties of Essential Oils are endless, here are just a few:
  • Effective against the replication of viruses such as H1N1 (*ref 1)
  • Antibacterial and Antimicrobial properties (*ref 2)
  • Anti-fungal properties (ie. candida) (*ref 3) (*ref 4)
  • Detoxifying
  • Rich in antioxidants

Essential oils can also penetrate the cellular barrier, unlike their synthetic pharmaceutical counterparts, which makes them extremely effective in aiding the body in fighting candida - because they can penetrate the protective bio-film layer, bacteria, and preventing the replication of viruses - which means faster recovery time.

Essential oils are also up 50 - 70 times more potent than their herbal counterparts (this includes teas).  A little bit goes a long way.  One drop = one dose, which makes them extremely cost effective.  When stored properly, they will not expire and can possibly outlive you!
